MATERIALS & CARE / EXTENDING TEAK TABLES

How to care for and protect extending teak tables

More room for good times outdoors: our extending teak tables combine natural materials with thoughtful functionality. A little extra care after rain helps keep the internal extension leaves attractive and working smoothly.

A practical guide to our Viano, Teakset Mini and Mariva table ranges.

THREE TABLE MODELS / THREE STEPS EACH

How our extending teak tables work

The model sequences show the open extension, the unfolding of the internal leaf and the fully extended table with the outer sections pushed together. After rain, allow concealed areas to dry well whenever necessary.

Why moisture needs special attention

When the extra tabletop leaves are folded inside the table, rainwater can enter joints and gaps. Moisture between closely fitting wooden surfaces may dry more slowly than on the exposed tabletop.

Moisture trapped for longer periods can promote discolouration and unwanted wood movement. It is therefore worth checking concealed areas from time to time, even during the garden season.

OUR CARE TIP

Open briefly. Allow to dry. Enjoy again.

After prolonged rain, unfold the extension leaves as intended when the weather is dry and allow accessible gaps to dry.

After the rain: four simple steps

Keep the internal extension leaves in good condition too.

STEP 01

Extend the table gently

After heavy rain, extend the table as intended in suitable dry weather and unfold the leaves carefully.

STEP 02

Gently absorb any water

Check accessible joints, support surfaces and gaps. Absorb any water with a soft, absorbent cloth.

STEP 03

Allow to dry thoroughly

Allow the accessible upper and lower surfaces of the leaves and the extending mechanism to dry thoroughly.

STEP 04

Slide the table closed again

Only when the accessible surfaces are dry, fold away the leaves as instructed and close the table.

Allow concealed areas to dry too

After prolonged rain, internal wooden surfaces can remain damp longer than the visible tabletop. Check accessible gaps and allow sufficient drying time in dry weather.

Well protected through winter

Before extended periods without use, gently clean accessible wooden surfaces. Let the table and its internal extension leaves dry thoroughly.

A suitable protective cover reduces direct weather exposure. During extended periods under cover, occasionally check for condensation and ensure adequate air circulation.

Naturally beautiful teak

Teak is a natural material. Over time it may develop a silvery-grey patina, subtle colour variations and surface cracks typical of wood.

Our teak tables are supplied unoiled. Natural greying from sunlight and weather is typical of the material. Regardless of this, regular drying of concealed leaves remains important.

Good to know: Do not remove integrated leaves yourself. Operate the extension without force and avoid pressure washers. We are happy to advise you on operation.
