How to protect teak furniture in winter

Well-maintained teak furniture can overwinter outdoors if suitably constructed. Gentle cleaning, thorough drying, an appropriate location and adequate ventilation are essential. Store cushions and delicate accessories separately in a clean, dry place.

Five preparation steps: (1) Remove leaves and dirt using a soft brush and mild soapy water. (2) Allow the furniture to dry fully, including joints and undersides. (3) Choose a dry, ventilated location or a suitable outdoor spot where water can drain. (4) Use suitable covers and check them after weather changes. (5) At the beginning of the season, check surfaces, screws and moving parts.

Five steps for winter protection.

After cleaning, allow everything to dry completely before fitting suitable covers. During the cold months, also check that standing water cannot build up and that the furniture is stable.
